Neston Concert
The Port Sunlight Orchestra provided a large-scale contrast the following evening at [Neston Parish Church]. Presenting a programme of music by Elgar and Friends, conductor and musical director David Straughan gave a fascinating introduction to each piece, highlighting the connections between Elgar and fellow composers as well as his and the music's links with Liverpool and -surprisingly - New Brighton.
The programme began with Elgar's lesser known Pomp and Circumstance March No 5 and his Severn Suite, continued with compositions by Sibelius, Richard Strauss and Delius, and concluded with a rousing and audience-swaying rendition of Elgar's Prom-favourite Pomp and Circumstance March No 1.
