One of Port Sunlight's Oldest Institutions
The Port Sunlight Orchestra is based at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight. With origins in the last decade of the 19th century (initially as the Port Sunlight Band) the PSO is one of the village's oldest institutions.
Please follow the links above to find out more about the orchestra and its history, our current season of concerts and programmes we have presented in the past.
The PSO is seeking a conductor to succeed Eric Jennings, who has announced his intention to retire at the end of the current season (April 2012).
The PSO currently has 40 core members and rehearses from 7:30 till 10:00 pm on Monday evenings during a season running from early September to the end of April. Each season comprises four 1-hour concerts in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, and typically two longer concerts at outside venues. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced as an orchestral conductor, familiar with a wide range of classical and modern orchestral music and able to establish and maintain an effective working rapport with players of mixed age and ability. The PSO does not currently pay a salary to its conductor, but travelling and other reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
